HOW DO I ENTER A QSLB SHOW?
QSLB publishes a prize list in the early
spring; a booklet listing the dates and locations of all shows, entry forms,
where to send your entries and dates to have them in by, a summary of rules,
etc. The prize list will be mailed to members and will also be available
on the website. Mail or drop off your completed entry form to the listed
show organizer (NOT to the show location unless the same). For the 2010 season, entries will close TWO WEEKS prior
to show date. Late entries will not be accepted once the schedule
is complete so get your entries in on time to avoid disappointment.
WHAT IS TO BE INCLUDED WITH MY ENTRY?
Your entry form must be filled out completely, both sides and your liability
waiver must be signed. You must fill in the membership and passport
numbers. Photocopies of the appropriate membership cards must be included
(note: if the owner of the horse is different from the rider, all membership
requirements are necessary for BOTH rider and owner and photocopies of BOTH must
be included). Coggins test are no longer required at QSLB shows. Please ensure
you have your memberships joined in plenty of
time. Include your cheque for entry fees and all other applicable fees
payable to QSLB. NSF cheques are REALLY frowned upon (beware, we may post
your picture on the web!) and a $25 service charge will be added.
Read the prize list carefully and if you have any questions, contact any
member of the executive. Please remember we are a non-profit organization
and all shows are organized and run by volunteers - many of whom have full
time jobs, families, horses, farms. Organizing a horse show is an enormous
amount of work that we do for the love of dressage - try to make our job
easier. And if you can help out at a show, even for a few hours
(no experience required for many jobs), please contact
qslbinfo@gmail.com.
WHAT ASSOCIATIONS DO I NEED TO JOIN IN ORDER TO SHOW?
Entrants showing in any QSLB show must belong to the OEF (an OEF
membership for 2010 is $60 for an adult and $50 for a junior 17 or younger as of
01/01/2008,
available online at Ontario Equestrian
Federation or call 1-877-441-7112). OEF memberships are required for
insurance purposes, there will be no exceptions. To show in a Bronze, Silver or
Gold
show, entrants must also have an Bronze, Silver or Gold EC sports license.
Entrants in a Silver or Gold show must have a passport for their horse. Details of how to acquire these can be reviewed at Equine
Canada's website. Entrants in a Gold show
must have a Dressage Canada membership. Details of how to acquire this
can be review at Dressage Canada's
website. Entrants are not required to belong to QSLB, Cadora
Inc. or Cadora Ontario in order to show. However, QSLB members are
entitled to year-end awards, member rates for show entries and other member benefits (see membership).
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DISCOVERY,
A BRONZE, A
SILVER AND A GOLD SHOW?
All QSLB shows are recognized member competitions of Equine Canada and are
governed by the rules of Equine Canada (EC) and the Ontario Equestrian
Federation (OEF). It is less expensive to participate at the Bronze level as the entry fees are lower and a DC membership and horse passport are not required
(However, OEF drug testing fees will be added and an EC
Bronze license will be required). QSLB
Bronze shows
will be offering Walk/Trot classes as well as Training Level and First Level.
The ring size is smaller (20m x 40m for Walk/Trot and Training Level although
20m x 60m for First Level) than at the Silver and Gold levels. The
Bronze
division is a stepping stone to the Silver (Provincial) and
Gold (National) divisions.
The ring size at the Silver and Gold shows will
be the large ring (20m x 60m). EC licences, DC memberships (at Gold level)
and horse passports are required. Entry fees are higher. Classes will be offered
at all levels (Training through Fourth) for Silver and Gold entries while FEI classes will be available at the
Gold level up to Grand Prix.
DO I NEED AN OMNIBUS OR TEST BOOK
OR WHERE CAN I FIND CURRENT TESTS?
All tests can be downloaded
from the Dressage Canada website
free of charge. The Omnibus which lists all dressage tests - walk/trot right through to FEI
Grand Prix - is published and distributed by Cadora Inc. and is only available
to Cadora members (see membership). Dressage
Canada also publishes a Test Booklet which is distributed to Dressage Canada
full members (see membership).
HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT TIME I RIDE?
Ride times are generally available on the Wednesday preceding the show date
and (barring any unforeseen computer problems) will be posted on the
website. Ride times may also be acquired by calling the number listed in
the prize list. It is the rider's responsibility to obtain their ride
times for all classes.
WHAT BITS ARE ALLOWED? CAN MY HORSE BE ON 'BUTE'?
Rule books are available from Equine Canada, 2460 Lancaster Road, Suite 200,
Ottawa, Ontario K1B 4S5 or may be downloaded free of charge from their website www.equinecanada.ca.
Please read and be familiar with the rules All QSLB shows are
governed by the rules of Equine Canada and the Ontario Equestrian
Federation. Random drug testing may be done at any show. EC Recorded
Stewards will be present at all Trillium and National shows and any discrepancy to
the rules will result in an immediate elimination from the class. The
judge's decision is final is ALL cases. The judge reserves the right to
excuse any unmanageable or lame horse or to disqualify any rider for abusing a
horse.
