Silver Competitions
QSLB Cadora will be offering four Silver competitions in the 2012 season. Go to Show Dates for dates and locations. Please download the prize list and read thoroughly!
Memberships required for a Silver competition: OEF (Ontario Equestrian Federation) membership, EC (Equine Canada) Silver sport license. All horses or ponies entered in a Silver competition must have a valid EC passport with current horse License (sticker). QSLB memberships are not required. However, QSLB members will be granted preferred entry to over-subscribed shows and reduced administration fees to show entries, in addition to being eligible for year-end awards.
Classes offered at QSLB Silver competitions:Tests offered include EC Training level test 1, 2, 3, EC First level test 1, 2, 3, EC Second level test 1, 2, 3, EC Third level test 1, 2, 3, EC Fourth Level test 1, 2, 3. All tests will be held in the 20x60 ring. Freestyles are available at all Silver shows, please notify the show organizer in advance if you wish to do one. All EC tests are available at www.dressagecanada.org.
Silver Awards Available: QSLB awards - Champion and Reserve: Junior and Senior, Training and First, based on the total of your best two scores over 50%, from 2 different judges at two different shows, excluding Freestyles. Junior and Senior ‘High Scores’ will be calculated at each show, open to Non-Members. These ribbons will be presented at our end of year banquet. Cadora National/Ontario members are eligible for many Cadora Ontario awards. Cadora Ontario presents the Silver Championships, memberships are not required to compete, however, members again are eligible for many Cadora Ontario awards. Dressage Canada offers rider and horse awards upon registration and payment of registration fees.

2012 Rules of Equine Canada Section E - please note competitors are responsible for knowing and understanding their rule books: Equine Canada Section A: General Rules and Regulations (2012) AND Equine Canada Section E: Dressage (2012). The following are only a SMALL sampling of the rules!
Article E 4.1. GOLD AND SILVER COMPETITIONS INCLUDING CHAMPIONSHIPS: WALK/TROT THROUGH FOURTH LEVEL
- A dark coloured jacket (tailcoats not permitted). Contrasting pin stripes and piping are allowed.
- ASTM/SEI or BSI approved protective headgear, bowler, hunt cap, top hat.
- White or light coloured breeches
- Juniors are permitted to wear jodhpurs and jodhpur boots
- Tie, hunting stock, or choker
- Gloves
- Black riding boots (plain, laced or with zippers)
- Spurs are optional. See E 4.1.8.
Article E 4.2 BRIDLES
- All bridles must be correctly fitted and be black or brown in colour.
- Reins must be black or brown in colour.
- Type of reins is optional but reins with hand loops, elastic or rubber inserts are prohibited.
- Bitless bridles are not permitted.
- Padding is allowed on bridles.
- Chain browbands are not permitted unless the chain is a decoration stuck to a leather browband.
- The browband may not have anything hanging from it. Exception: a small name tag is permitted.
- The Micklem bridle is permitted.
Article E 4.2.1. SNAFFLE BRIDLE
Required at Walk/Trot, Training, First and Second level but optional at Third and Fourth Levels.
Article E 4.5 SADDLES
- A plain English black or brown saddle with stirrups is compulsory at Walk/Trot through Fourth Level.
- Dressage saddles are required in FEI classes. The saddle must be close to the horse and have long, near-vertical flaps.
- An English saddle type saddle may be assembled with or without a tree but cannot have a horn, swell, gallerie or open gullet.
- Australian, Baroque, Endurance, McClellan,Spanish, Stock or Western saddles are not permitted nor are modified versions of these saddles.
- Leather or fabric/synthetic saddles are permitted.
- Saddle covers are not allowed at any level.
- If a saddle pad is used, it must be solid white, off white, grey, black or other dark colour. It may have piping of a different colour to the pad.
Article E 4.7 WHIPS
- A whip may be carried in all levels at Bronze, Silver and Gold competitions.
- Whips may not be carried in championship competitions or national team selection trials.
- The total length of the whip (including lash) must not exceed 120 cm.
- Whips for ponies in all classes must not exceed 100 cm in length including lash.
- Telescoping whips are not permitted.
- The following whips are permitted in the schooling areas: a) A standard lunging whip, when lunging an unmounted horse only b) A whip for in-hand work no longer than 1.80 meters including lash (to be used only by one person on the ground).
